Just Say I do......
Today dawned.
I had the hairdresser at 9.30; which turned out actually to be at 9.00, so that was a good start.
Straight from there to the chemist to pick up a last couple of things. Himself had been running round town picking other bits up.
K texting to tell me she felt sick. "Breathe", I said.
Back home, showered, dressed, nails, make up. Done. Sandwich to see me through. Himself got him ready in the back ground. Well done you.
Then we drove, panicked at last minute cause we got lost in middle of Paisley again, and then amazingly found the hotel very quickly.
Got checked in, which was brilliant as the wee lassie on the phone had said "no chance, but there's a toilet you can check yourself over in".
The room was beautiful, see extra. And only about 300 yards from the venue.
Oh heavens. the Venue , Coats Paisley, large Gothic Church in the center of the High Street - massive stair case up to the front door, where the guests were all congregating, managed up and didn't pass out with the effort. Noticed everyone was quaffing alcohol, so asked the Groom for directions... a groom, I may add, showed no signs of nerves and looked to be having a pretty damn good time already. (Although the wife to be was still texting him instructions as to what to do with the seating plan).
The bar was down two flights of stairs, yes, all the stairs we had climbed up to get to the door - but inside, stone and going round in circles. I was so delighted to find the lift for the return. We sat in the cloisters where it was cool, so as not to be sweaty betties when the services started. It was the most glorious of days 21 degrees, and blue blue skies.
We got the nod to enter, and I was delighted to reconnect with workmates from 22 years ago - The same gang of reprobates K and I worked beside when we first met.
K, very unlike her, but probably rehearsed for maximum effect was about 15 minutes late, and I watched in anticipation as every one looked round to watch her coming down the aisle with her dad. I waited til the very last moment and was blown away.
Off the shoulder, embroidered silk bodice, and satin skirt tailing off into a long train punctuated with buttons from below the neckline of the dress to the hem. Absolutely stunning.
Then followed the ceremony which was humanist and hand-tying. No singing and no praying. Lovely.
Then outside where we formed a guard of honour and were handed confetti cannons to explode over the happy couple at the appropriate time. I could not for the love of god burst mine so Handed it to himself who managed to hit the back of them; thankfully I wasn't the lady who was determined to do it herself and released it as the happy couple reached the bottom of the steps... about 30 yards away.
More photos, and then the Bride and Groom disappeared for photos, and we were enticed in with the promise of a drink and eats.
A characturist was sitting in the room and Si and I had no choice but to pose. Was actually a very attractive pictures We were delighted.
We soon retreated out in to the garden and took up a table and commenced people watching. K and A appeared back after a couple of rounds, and K became the MOST attentive bride in the world. I do not think there was anyone in the room that she did not stop and speak to, repeatedly. If someone was standing on their own, it was for 2 minutes only - and K would be at their side.
Cake Cutting, Speeches and Meal followed, and with K sitting right in front of me, I was subjected to "are you okay", every time I caught her eye. I was fine. We had a lovely table, with K's Cousin, wife and Daughter who was a flower girl, and A's brother (who was the physical best man), his wife and one of his daughters (who were both bridesmaids).
After a lovely meal we were kicked out in to the garden and or the off-piste room until they rearranged and then the dancing started.
Aw. It was a lovely day... very, very lovely, and I was so delighted to see my mate get that ring on her finger.
