Peeping through

Most places you go in central Florence, the Duomo is visible, or at least Brunelleschi's dome is visible. It is, it turns out, actually higher than the bell tower, which means that it really is a bit of a statement building. When you are close by, you don't realise that. I snapped this on a fairly early walk around the centre which Mr A accompanied me on (having said after our late night on Wednesday that he was doing nothing on Thursday...).

Today was a bit of a day off, although I had a couple of useful Teams meetings, and a working lunch with JDz, so it was not all lazing around. It was in any event far too hot to laze around outdoors, so at 6pm when we went to Caffe del Verone to meet HJT and a colleague of his, we were still seeking shade to avoid getting broiled. The centre of Florence was pretty quiet, as all of the locals had obviously gone to the seaside or the countryside, it being Republic Day (as well as the beginning of the Jubilee long weekend in the UK), although there were still plenty of tourists. After an aperitivo, we went for a pizza at Il Pizzaiuolo, as recommended by JDz, which was excellent. We managed to get a table straight away as we went early, but by the time we left there was a queue outside. It was still quite early, but we were ready for an earlier night than we had managed all week, so we came straight back to the hotel.
