‘Volunteering at parkrun’

An old recurrent injury flared up a bit during the week, so I thought that it would be a wise move not to run at parkrun this week, but to volunteer instead.

Volunteering at parkrun is always satisfying and enjoyable and my role today was ‘Funnel Manager’. The main job of the Funnel Manager is to ensure that runners and walkers keep moving, along the finish funnel, stay in order and don’t duck out of or in to the funnel!

While this involves a certain amount of tact sometimes, it’s mainly about congratulations to finishers, which is always well received!

Before that, though, before the event starts, the funnel managers go up the first few hundred meters of the course, to warn any dog walkers and others, about the likelihood of a thundering herd of runners bearing down on them shortly!

Fortunately, despite the fine weather, the prom was pretty quiet today and I was able to make a little video of the start, which will be posted on the Edinburgh parkrun Facebook page. If you’re interested, you can see it here
