Marsh Orchid

I needed to buy something for dinner (fish & chips for home baking ... well it is Friday!), so it was a good excuse to drop in on Heather Farm Wetlands for an afternoon tea stop (aka ice cream) and gentle stroll round the site.

A former mushroom farm, the site has only been managed as a nature reserve and wetland since 2016, but is developing nicely, though there still seems to be a lack of wildlife. It seems to be mainly geared to casual visitors and dog walkers, drawn no doubt by the well marked hard paths and cafe. Even so, it was good to spot a couple of Marsh Orchids in the wetland area and damselflies in the steams bordering the reserve, so my stop wasn't wasted.
