Iceland Day 1
We left home at 6.45 for Glasgow Airport. Having the jubilee holiday meant the roads, even the Edinburgh by-pass, were quiet, resulting in us parking up at the airport in under 2.5 hours.
The airport was very civilised, with the only long queue being at check in with IcelandicAir. We went straight through security, apart from my small rucksack apparently containing something suspicious - it turned out to be my headphones. We had a second breakfast before the flight at 1pm. It took only 2 hours and was a full flight with 186 passengers, most of whole were Americans taking advantage of the quick and cheap route home from Europe. (We went to Minneapolis this way 7 years ago).
We just missed a bus into the city so had to wait 30 minutes. As it would have cost an extra £40 to be dropped at the hotel we elected to walk from the bus station. I saw the kirk was on the way and remembered slithering up to it a snowy February about 35 years ago. That’s my blip.
We got to the hotel at 5pm and are awaiting contact from our guide about the plan for tomorrow. We have already met Gary from Peebles in the foyer. He’s going to be travelling with us. He’d got the bus all the way to the hotel. We’ll need to do that on the way back as our flight is very early.
