Tunnel

Callendar Estates, who own and manage much of the land around Falkirk, have created quite a few waymarked walking and cycling trails in the area. 

Two of the walking trails start and end at Lionthorn: one is a relatively short woodland walk and the other is a 4.5km route called the Industrial Heritage Trail. It was this one I decided to walk on Sunday evening.

Part of this walk goes through the Cleuch Plantation and follows the route of the old mineral railway, used to transport coal to the Forth and Clyde Canal initially by horse and cart and then by mechanised transport.
