Inland Sea Cliff
La Gironde, Charente Maritime
The whole area is underlaid by limestone, the picture above shows limestone sea cliffs left high and dry as the sea levels fell, however......
Recent days have not been good for wifi when heading south. The blips prepared and ready to go but other things became a priority and the wifi cafe hunt was lost in the traffic. The weather is good although a cool breeze at times. We have camped on the driveway of friends who live near Gemozac and today driving along the route beside La Gironde. Camping Cars are in evidence - its the weekend - with good facilities if you want to stay overnight. We have visited Mortagne sur Gironde before but hadn't realised how popular a place it is when the sun shines.
On the way to the Gironde we visited an excavated Roman Villa and later came across further information of Roman Occupation near the Gironde.
In recent days we have seen cowslips, banks of them looking beautiful in the sunshine, bluebells, orchids and masses of primroses. The further south we go the greener the hedgerows become and the more blossom we see. Several days ago when having a cup of tea bedside some wetlands we could see avocet, egret, stilt, gulls, a tern, heron and shell duck.
