It was in the way

On my way from the inpatient unit to the carpark to spend the afternoon at the CMHC, I walk along a path between major developments on the Auckland Hospital site. As it wasn't raining, I noticed this stump which is all that remains of a once big old pohutukawa tree. 

It dared to be growing in a place which the Hospital Board has decided is empty space allowing more building or parking. Therefore it was in the way. It was a big tree, and appeared healthy even though when felled its hollow trunk was seen.
