Sarcoptic Mange

This afternoon I came across this very sad wombat having a drink - it has a moderate case of Sarcoptes which is common in wombats (I’ve seen much worse). It’s caused by the Sarcoptic mite burrowing in the skin and is extremely itchy which I know from personal experience.
Sarcoptic mange is also common in dogs and is a zoonosis, meaning it is transmissible to humans (Scabies). It’s easy to treat in dogs and people but wombats are not fond of human company so treatment is difficult. I managed to splash 50mls of Moxidectin on his back so hopefully he’ll feel better.
I’ve been known to speak unkindly of wombats, particularly as I pick myself up after putting the motorbike down one of their burrows!
