Jumping Spider

I opened my back door to let the dogs out this afternoon to find a jumping spider hunting by the lock on my door.

I really appreciate having these very helpful spiders around as pest control guys.

The way they move and respond to their immediate environment is fascinating to me.

They hunt by sight and succeed with speed.

This guy noticed my close approach with my little camera.

Rather than run away he turned and faced me head-on, getting up on his hind legs, spreading his front legs and showing his large iridescent blue fangs.

It was as if he said to me "Bring it on!".

I was duly impressed with his machismo.

As I said, I like these guys.
