Welding Rodeo
Bellingham Technical College started its welding rodeo in 2002 as a way to spike enrollment and raise public profile.
This years theme is " Into the Garden"
At 8 am a horn blasts which signals the start of the competition. Each team makes a mad dash to the pile of donated scrap metal to select the prime pieces of steel for their sculpture. It is every man and woman for themselves. All with the same goal - to conceptualize, design. and created a finished piece of art in just 8 hours.
This sculture is using a weed eater as the body frame.
Thousand of people attend each year. At the end of the competition the pieces are auctioned off and the money is used for welding scolarships.
What a great way to recycle and great use of the money earned.
