World Parrot Day (and British Imperial Measures?)

Who knew? What I do know is that I am hoping that the parakeet that screeched from tree to tree on our road last summer does not return this year. I know that these small, intelligent parrots have been seen, and heard, as far north as Glasgow and Edinburgh. However I do think they are out of place here and I understand that they are very unfriendly to many smaller native birds.

Today is also a day when the most conservative are rejoicing at the thought of the possible reintroduction of British Imperial Measures?! If I were cynical I would ask if this ploy, by the current PM, was an attempt at distraction from the partygate saga that seems to go on and on …

I do remember maths lessons at school, pre-decimalisation and metrication were extraordinarily confusing. I for one am not wishing to reset that particular clock.

My blip shows my grandfather’s scale for measuring the weight of letters, and the price of stamps needed, prior to posting. Its mechanism continues to fascinate our grandchildren today!
