Down By the River
L decided we should head out to a remote place to see if we could observe the Herculid Meteor Shower due around midnight our time. So on the spur of the moment we booked a cabin near a town called Broken Bow in South East Oklahoma not too far from Arkansas and only 3 hours drive. Off we went with a stop at a rather unfortunately named town called Sulpur Springs where there are 8 Tesla fast chargers to top up the battery for the second part of the journey. The chargers are so good that I had to go and unplug the car and move it before our meal came at the place we stopped for lunch. Anyway, we got here after a couple of miles on an unmade road and found our little 2 person cabin out in the wilds and with a balcony looking out over the Glover River - gorgeous view and a wide river - there is a little beach about 100 meters away and maybe a swim in the river might be on the cards. This pic of L posing on the beach. We stayed up and went out into the middle of the field with our camping chairs and sat and watched about 7 shooting stars which we presume to be the meteors - it was just very peaceful and awe inspiring to look at the blanket of stars realizing that they are all systems light years away from each other and ponder the enormity of the universe. Spending another day here before returning tomorrow.
