To Vesuvius today. We didn't go up to the crater, you had to book a ticket for that, but instead had a lovely, if unbearably hot, walk around the old crater which emptied itself onto Pompeii. Lots of wildflowers and butterflies. 
Trip to Herculaneum in the afternoon, which in many ways was more enjoyable than Pompeii. Much smaller and more achievable and better preserved. Not body casts here but skeletons found sheltering by the harbour (Bottom left of extras)
