Not That Shakespeare

We're looking after Rory for a couple of days while daughter#1 works from (our) home. We'd bought him a box set of Shakespeare stories for his birthday and they have been looking at a few of the plays at school so I was pleased he wanted to make a visit to Stratford today. However, although his knowledge of the Bard is probably better than mine now, it turns out that his interest is more in the TV detective series, Shakespeare and Hathaway! It's his favourite. We watched the first episode with him last night so a major aim today was to look for locations which are used in the series.

We started off doing the sightseeing bus tour, which I thought was good value, interesting and educational. We saw Anne (not that) Hathaway's cottage (in the extras).

We then had a look at the theatre (main blip and extra) and finished off the day with Shakespeare's birthplace. I thought that was a bit overpriced. We nearly didn't go in as they had a stupid system where even though they had tickets you had to book on line outside. I had to use my phone to negotiate a QR code, then a complicated web site and then trying to pay via PayPal I had to answer one of those 'how many pictures have mountains in them' questions to prove I wasn't a robot. I gave up at this point and asked if we could just buy the tickets at the desk, which we could. We had to wait a bit though as a group with pre-booked tickets were being dealt with and they were explaining that two of their party would be late, but they would be easy to recognise as they were identical twins. We eventually got in (another extra).

It had been a nice day up until this point, but we got soaked going back to the car. We did think about going on to Warwick to look for the Lord Leycester Hospital which is used for the office in the TV series, but we'd had enough by then.
