Salad Days
The periods of a person’s youth that was without worry
I think this is a perfect description for our almost 11 month old Jax. These are definitely his Salad Days - he doesn’t have a worry in the world and is secure in the knowledge that all his needs are taken care of. And if we do this right, his whole life will be nothing but Salad Days. I was all set to take him for a walk on the Lane, but what he really wanted was to roll around in the grass , taking a few nibbles, and just watch everything. And who am I to argue with that?
We had my Honda towed to our mechanic this morning. It’s been not starting as it should and finally quit starting altogether a couple of days ago. And then, wouldn’t you know it - the brakes in Hubs Mercedes started to squeal and it seems he needs pads and calipers. And none of the local automotive shops have the calipers so he has to order them. Which leaves us with his ‘70 Camaro. I think we will just rent a car for a bit until we get everything sorted.
I checked on the nest boxes this morning. The four baby blues are getting feathers and peep mightily when their parents arrive with food. Mama House Wren is still sitting on 6 eggs while Papa is singing his heart out to attract another mate. Polygamous little thing! This is actually the first time in memory that the male wren hasn’t had two broods going simultaneously.
No bear sightings in the last 2 days but we all heard a thump last night while watching tv that sent Jax into full bear-mode, racing from window to window barking and growling. Guess we are all a little on edge.
We got some other wonderful news today but it’s not mine to share, not yet.
It’s nice to have a long weekend (even though I’m retired).
Dark with mint today
