Not every day

Across the great divide...

...of Mold Road, Ruthin/Rhuthun, stand facing each other Ruthin School (above), claiming to trace its origins back to 1284 but in effect founded as recently as 1574, and Ysgol Brynhyfryd (Brynhyfryd School, below, naturally), a comprehensive school for 11-18 year olds founded in 1898 as Ruthin County School for Girls (although I assume these particular buildings are far more recent).

Annual fees at Ruthin School are £9,000-£11,750 (day pupils) and £23,500 (boarding). Ysgol Brynhyfryd is presumably free, although these days parents are increasingly expected to fund lots of things that would previously have been part of the package.

The social impact of this juxtaposition is something I can only speculate on, although in a way it seems healthier than being miles apart from each other geographically, as well as socially.
