Killdeer

The resident killdeer (Charadrius vociferus) that live on my sister’s land are very skittish, and extremely difficult to photograph. This is the only image of this species that I’ve managed to get so far this year. Killdeer nest on the ground, so every year we must be careful not to disturb the eggs before they hatch. They will give us their fake broken-wing routine if we get too close to the young.
