On Herne Bay pier
We sprang Doreen from her care home this morning for a trip to Herne Bay with Barbara and David. We encountered a 7 mile traffic jam at the eastern end of the M2 caused by a lane closure on the slip road to Canterbury. Who left that there over the busiest weekend of the year so far?
Parking at Hampson Road pier we wheeled Doreen along the prom to Herne Bay pier and it’s cafe for tea and scones.
From there it was what seemed a marathon afternoon of wheeling and shop window gazing around the streets of Herne Bay.
Our intention was to have an early fish and chip tea at the Fish in Two restaurant on the High Street. That was discounted as there were 4 steep steps preventing wheelchair access.
Our next stop was Mackari’s fish and chip shop which we thought was too expensive at £15 plus extra for tea, bread and butter and mushy peas. Finally we found Davy’s Plaice which was far more reasonable, had small as well as large fish and chips and was a nicer place.
It was good to walk back to the car at Hampson Road to help settle the tea before the easier drive back.
