RNLI Fundraiser.
Today M was taking part in a charity fundraiser for the RNLI, for whom he volunteers. The event was a ladies' lunch at the Douglas Hotel, organised by a lady who had sadly lost her son in a helicopter ditching in April 2009. The Super Puma AS 332 L2 went down 20 km northeast of Peterhead, killing all 16 people onboard. 2 months previously a Super Puma EC 225 had ditched in fog 200km east of Aberdeen - all 18 people on board survived. In the next two years, two more Super Puma EC 225 helicopters came down; both times with no fatalities. The RNLI assisted in each rescue operation. As a thank you to the RNLI, Audrey Wood - mother of Stuart Wood - launched Bubbles, Glitz and Glamour, which is now in its 2nd year.
The day began for M and I at the lifeboat station, where the boys practiced their act (and I laughed - a lot). We then migrated to the Douglas Hotel, and as the boys waited in the bar, 250 women dressed to the nines arrived for the event. I was in the audience with V from work (whose Mum is an RNLI fundraiser), and we had a gorgeous meal followed by an auction and fashion show. The boys were introduced and the work of the charity explained... Then, as a surprise to nearly everyone in the room - the Full Monty theme tune began!
The boys began stripping off, and 250 slightly tipsy women pretty much rushed the stage. They did so well, and got down to skimpy little pants and tiny tutu's with no wardrobe malfunctions. In fact, it was quite hard to get some of them back into their clothes afterwards... This is M (left) and B, enjoying the spotlight. R is grinning in the background.
Women were queuing up to have their photos taken with the boys, and when M gave me a kiss for the (official) photographer, the squealing could probably be heard in Torry! When the official event was over, we meandered into the hotel bar and spent a couple of hours dancing and drinking Veuve Clicquot in celebration, before M and I slipped away home - he was fast asleep on the sofa by 8pm - worn out after all that adrenaline.
Well done, boys :o)
