High tech billiard table

The billiard table in the house at Tyntesfield incorporated the latest technology of the time. The slate bed was heated by hot water pipes beneath the table which was linked to a separate scoring board by electrical wires.

We spend a long Ascension weekend in the UK. The airport in Zurich was already full before 6 am as rarely and also on arrival at London Heathrow the queue before passport control was long. Unfortunately, Thursday is software update day and the automatic gates had so their problems. When it was my turn, my passport immediately produced a black screen, to the frustration of the queue behind me. But we were then received by an immigration officer who did his job with so much joy and charm that it could not have been a better reception in the UK.

For the few days we booked two different hotels in the area of the Cotswolds and Cheltenham. We were a bit absent-minded and went to the wrong hotel first. After a very short time the irritation was resolved with much smiling at the reception. We had a small lunch and then drove on.

In the afternoon we visited the National Trust estate of Tyntesfield before we drove on to the right hotel.
