LOST WILDENESSES
There are no wildernesses to found
In Britain anymore and we should mourn
The day they felled the trees and broke the ground
To graze their animals and plant more corn.
They were quite unaware
That one day someone may care,
Would rather see, instead of house and lawn
The wild places there.
They causes our food supplies to overflow,
Urged on by those said we needed more,
And where the grass was poor and corn won’t grow
Grew trees where trees had never grown before;
Burned the heaths and moorland
Poured milk into the sea and burnt the straw
But nobody raised a hand.
Yet when somebody does, will they just be
Politically motivated men]
Who try to tell the likes of you and me
That they feel now as we were feeling then?
They must be made aware
That some of us really care
And act, not talk, so we might see again
The wild places there.
