Down By the Creek....

My day started with a shot of coffee with friends and then a shot of Covid vaccine #4...Having all that under my belt, I felt the need to go for a walk..I had not been out and about since the storm and figured that by now all streetlights would be operational, and all trees would be removed from streets and roads...so driving somewhere would not be a challenge.

Heber Down is one of our local conservation areas and if you can wind your way successfully through access roads closed due to construction of ever-sprawling housing developments, you are rewarded with a lovely valley and 5 kms of hiking trials through peaceful woodlands, along the Lynde Creek and up the sides of the valley for scenic views ...And for an hour or so, you can imagine that you are in the countryside, far from the madding crowd. If the idea of a picnic appeals, they even have a place for that too. I have taken note.

It was an eye-opener to drive through town though - the streets are lined with fallen trees and branches all nicely cut up now and waiting for pick-up, but there are still trees lying right where they fell or with huge broken limbs still hanging in the tree...We seem to have got off easy in our neighbourhood as no damage was done to our homes or cars.. And we were lucky to get our power back when we did; others are still waiting.

So a morning spent strolling along the babbling creek and through the woods was just what I needed today..All seems right with the world when one is down by the creek.
