Narrow-leaved Vetch

One of the hottest days of the year so far, spent leading the South Lincs Flora Group round Whisby Nature Park. We were particularly pleased to welcome two young botanists to the group for the first time.

Over the course of the day we recorded 203 species, including thriving populations of Smooth Cat's-ear, Bird's-foot, Small Cudweed , Changing Forget-me-not and Narrow-leaved Vetch - all in the Sand Hills area of the site, where they had benefited from recent clearance of invasive birch. Other species of note included Southern Marsh-orchid  and several magnificent Scaly Male-fern in a very primeval looking area of wet woodland.

The heat was surprisingly exhausting, but luckily there was a cafe on hand for cooling drinks before the long drive home...
