The Graduate
Today is Katherine's big day. Today, having done it the hard way, she graduates from the Open University as a BA.
Instead of taking the well trodden path of the undergraduate straight from school, she chose as fourth in the family to spurn the academic route of her older siblings, for a varied life as an air hostess, singer, wife, mother, fitness instructor and finally radio presenter on the airwaves in Oman.
She has pushed herself learning Classical Greek and struggled with English literature and language asssignments while holding down her jobs in and out of the home.
But she has conquered the exhaustion and late nights to strut across the stage of the Usher Hall this afternoon and add two letters to her name.
Her father and I are hosting a celebratory party for her tonight, while His Lordship is the Maitre D and Master of Ceremonies. There will be sixteen adults and ten grandchildren present, the first time in ages that the whole family has come together....... well except for D77 who hasn't made it from Budapest and granddaughter Robynn who is sitting her final Baccalauriat exams in Oman. We will miss them.
