The Baishakhi Mela

Today we are celebrating Bengali New Year in the East End. It is centred around Brick Lane and Weavers Fields in Hackney, which is quite a large area.

I am normally wary of photographing children, but her parents were delighted when I asked to photograph their little girl.

There were predicted to be 100,000 people attending and true to form the atmosphere was great. A bit like Notting Hill Carnival but without the drugs and alcohol.
