a short(s) bike ride
I can't put it off any longer. Especially when Anniemay says "are you going to wear shorts today...?"
I know some people have no qualms about this, but I'm not sure the neighbourhood is ready yet for my spindly whiteness. And I don't want to frighten the horses. Because there are a fair number of horse - and cows - on today's ride.
My route takes me from Buckinghamshire and into Bedfordshire. Whilst I'm thus engaged, Anniemay belts round Central Park, then jumps off her bike, bungs a croissant in the oven and hops onto her balance board.
Just over an hour later she opens the back gate for me with that glistening (sounds better than sweaty) look which tells me she's worked hard. I can smell the coffee and the pastry.
"How were the legs?" she says.
"I need to get some tanning cream, if I'm going to do this again."
