Inveraray
Today we decided to travel up to Inveraray and walk in the castle grounds.
On the way we stopped at the Arrochar Tea Room for a morning cuppa and also each had a scone. We did not check the menu but just ordered, and were totally shocked when paying to discover that our 'just ok' scone had cost us £4.50 each. We will not be going back to that establishment!
Onward up Glen Croe and over the Rest and Be Thankful. We have not been there for quite a while and they are managing to make a right mess of it. They need to go to Norway, or even Iceland, to check on how to build roads over and through mountains.
Apart from the above, we had a nice journey to Inveraray and we walked in the castle grounds up to the beautiful waterfall I have blipped, and back down to the castle. (extra) The little summerhouse, I am told, was built for a former Duchess of Argyll who liked to sit by the falls.
There were bluebells everywhere, and lots of campion, buttercups, hawthorn, marsh marigolds and wild orchids. Lots of birds about too although I am not good at identification of birds. The lambs are getting big now, and were quite inquisitive of us as we passed. (extra)
The weather which was a bit unpredictable, started to rain as we turned back, and we had some very heavy rain. Unfortunately we were on a small track by this time and it was very muddy and with the rain it made the going difficult. But we got there, soaked but safe.
Stopped at the Oyster Bar on the way home, and the HG managed to buy some plants in the adjoining garden centre. So a good day all round.
The HG did enjoy his steak dinner tonight, as did I!
