Crinodendron Hookerianum

Business completed in the west end so before heading to Hillhead subway I had a walk in the Botanic Gardens.

The rhododendrons are looking wonderful but I wanted to find something different ….. if possible.  I didn’t go into the cafe but growing just beside the door was a Crinodendron tree, also known as the Chile Lantern Tree.

It is an evergreen shrub with rigid, dark green leaves and fleshy, lantern-shaped crimson flowers.  It’s such an eye catching tree, shame it’s not seen by many as the cafe is almost hidden from view.
