Still backing up

An IT expert told me I should do a periodic back up to a separate HD drive and unplug it from the PC. The theory being that a constantly connected HD drive may be infected in a cyber attack. I do the regular and frequent backup but it is always connected. In a highly organised way I have written the back up date on the HD before I bury it in the garden.
