If you only lived for a day where would you choose to spend it? This mayfly opted for one of the two family vaults in the churchyard. I was surveying there this afternoon, which turned out nice following this morning’s heavy rain. James (volunteer not son) and I spent a long time deciphering the inscription on top of this tomb with the aid of chalk, a hand brush and a bench, while the mayfly kept us company.
