Hmmm …..?

So we found this whilst working in the fields. Having had a look on the internet the nearest thing that I can find that looks like it is a stag beetle pupa. So I think it is the pupa of some sort of large beetle anyway. Never seen one like this before.
The dogs have been for two walks across the farm fields today. Back home and they have had supper and were playing together but now Pierce is snoozing in the house and Sid is in the garden.
