Mabel Fanny Hunt....

This portrait of beautiful Mabel Fanny Hunt hangs in the chapel of St Mary's Homes , Godstone, Surrey. She was the much loved daughter and companion of her widowed mother and sadly died shortly after returning from a ball when she was only 16 years old. After her death, her devastated mother, Mrs Augusta Nona Hunt, founded the building of eight homes for the elderly of Godstone. These homes were designed by Gilbert Scott RA and were completed in 1872. An aisle in the chapel is specifically dedicated to Mabel's memory.

It was wonderful to return to Godstone today and to spend a little longer than was possible previously with a class of 8year olds on Geography field trips.
