Van Gogh immersive experience
In the Propyard, a huge warehouse by the feeder canal in Bristol. The first part is an exhibition of painting, with information about the art and the artist, which is fairly normal except many of the paintings are projected, others are reproduced in giant form. The main is a sample of a constantly moving projection where his different pictures of flowers in vases morph into each other. Mesmerising.
The two extras are of the second part - the immersive experience, where paintings are constantly moving, coming to life, swirling around, with music which is just right somehow - a bit classical and a bit psychedelic. We sat in deckchairs for about an hour just ‘experiencing’ it:) We both loved it.
There are also some of his words being read out, about his art, his mental health, and what he most cared about. He said ”I feel there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people”. I suddenly heard the words “if you hear a voice in your head saying ‘you cannot paint’ then paint, and that voice will be silenced” I thought - maybe I should try? having given up aged about 7.
