Gotcha!
Another wonderful day with friends, and a first-ever bird for most of us - a Snail Kite!
We met up with Maura (Gaia's Child) at Sweetwater this morning and had a wonderful 2.5 mile walk around the wetlands - the only downside being the blazing heat! We were all soggy after several hours, but very happy with all we'd seen. Off to lunch, replenishing liquids and nourishment. We said goodbye to Maura and then headed to La Chua trail, a favorite from past trips.
Hilly and I immediately found a bird to photograph. And then, out of nowhere, a raptor flew over - it had a white butt band and we immediately thought "harrier", Except, harriers aren't really resident in FL this time of year. And they don't dive into the water to catch prey. And they don't snatch Apple Snails out of the water and then extract the yumminess. First Snail Kites for all of us. Wonderful adventure! We left the trail, drenched in sweat, grinning from ear to ear. And now we all all at the Sefferdog House getting ready to dig into some pizza.
Two other blips to check out - Sefferdog's Blip and Gaia's Child. And go see Hillyblips a little while later once she's had a chance to post.
cheers!
