The Future?
This is one of several industrial type buildings on the outskirts of Arlanda Airport. What makes it stand out is that instead of being a steel, or concrete construction, it is made of wood. Not just the exterior but the whole basic building.
Sweden, Finland, Canada and other forest countries are looking for innovative ways of using timber. Houses have always been made of wood, but now industry is looking to use it in larger and higher constructions. It's not really wood as we know it. It has been cut, glued, compressed, and made fire-retardant, but it still comes from a forest and locks up CO2 for at least the life of the building. And on top of all that it insulates well and looks really good!
We are on our way to the UK, and so far we've reached Arlanda Airport - flying tomorrow - exciting times!
