Covid Santa
My Dear Princess and Dear Friends,
So I haven't talked about Fazzy in a while. She stayed home all through Ramadan and then planned to take a short holiday after Eid and then come back to the office.
But reality intervened as it tends to do. I texted her last week to ask how the holiday was going and she told me they were still at home and that they all had COVID.
Apparently Hani cried with disappointment when she found out they weren't going away after all. And my heart broke a little bit because I'm a big softy.
So I promised I would do something to cheer them up and today was "something" day. I went into the office, but not really for "work" reasons. I was wanting to be in the office for "because it is near the toy shop" reasons.
I bought the kids heaps of stuff to cheer them up and then swung by Nando's because I know it is their favourite take-out food (when they found out their local Nando's is halal there was nearly dancing).
Of course, I asked Fazzy first if she WANTED Nando's. I wasn't sure if she and the family were feeling up to chicken.
"Oh my gosh! Are you sure? It's so much trouble!" she asked.
And I found myself saying, "Are you kidding me Fazzy? This is you! This is me! This is US!"
I talk such nonsense. I know it. I really do. But I mean it when I say it.
I stopped by Fazzy's and dropped the bags by their back door and the kids were waving and smiling and shouting. Then they quickly ran to the front to wave at me from there as well.
It was really very sweet.
When I got back to the train station to go home, I had these pictures and texts like this from Fazzy:
The kids are so excited! It's like Christmas in our house! Our tummies are full and so are our hearts thanks to Uncle Symon!
She was so thankful but she doesn't realise that I'm the one who's grateful. Just seeing those smiles will make me happy for years to come.
I really am a big softy.
S.
