Spitfire Roundabout
A trip to Thornaby today for a mix of urban and woodland orienteering. We both enjoyed our runs. I was definitely rusty for urban orienteering and the fast decision making. But hopefully will improve over the next few events.
This is a fibreglass replica of a Spitfire. Two squadrons were based here in the Second World War. One of their tasks was hunting for the Bismark and Tirpitz. They found the latter in a Norwegian fjord where it was later bombed.
It’s surprising what you learn and see whilst travelling to Orienteering events. Good to catch up with friends too.
