Mahler's Symphony No. 9

Over 80 musicians packed the stage to hear Mahler's 9th Symphony at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Carlos Kalmar, Music Director Laureate, returned to conduct the wonderfully moving and awesome symphony. As Kalmar says, "the Symphony is a world full of everything."
The pre-concert interview with Kalmar was followed by an explanation and demonstration of the new Constellaton Acoustic System tailored for the hall. It consists of 86 microphones and 293 speakers, precisely placed and concealed, costing $5 million. Nice, and much cheaper than building a new building.
We used the new binoculars to add to the enjoyment.
