A rose
Several years ago, we bought a number of species roses to plant into our hedge, with the intention that they would "ramble" around - like roses in a native hedgerow.
The idea was great, the results have been rather disappointing. The roses are, at least mainly, still there, but they have been really slow to get rambling.
This year they are looking a bit more enthusiastic, and one of them - species unknown, I'm afraid - has flowered. In a few years, it may have rambled far enough to scatter its flowers around the hedge. But we won't be here to see it.
We're finding it difficult to get up the enthusiasm for the routine maintenance of the garden - the lawn is in desperate need of some attention, and the weeds are rampant. The bracken is invading - I did muster up the energy to pull some up today.
I then spent some time in the studio, making a start on another project. And I did two small loads of washing. It's been a lovely sunny day, the washing has been washed, dried, and then sorted/folded/ironed - it's in a basket at the bottom of the stairs awaiting someone with the energy to carry it up.
