Island Life (#10)
What every little kid loves to do on the beach ….turn over rocks in the intertidal zone and see what crawls out!
“crabby crabs!” There are pages of these “shore crabs“or “beach crabs” in my book…all different kinds..I have no idea what these are exactly. (might be flat porcelain crabs) Less than 1 inch across the shell. I turned over the rock at the top.. How many do you see?
And what else? The island is made of sandstone and shale rock (with some granite erratics thrown in) The little common barnacles got fried in the heat wave last summer but it looks to me like they’re coming back . A few snails and limpets, and a half shell of a mussel. And little pieces of clams and oysters that make up the white shell beach.
H has built up some railings so it’s easy to get there now! (extra, from above) Until Rene comes back.
AND…..the phone rang at 9 am this morning and we both got excited it might be the plumber….but disappointingly it was someone from the condo with a problem! OH well…so much for this week and best laid plans. There’s june, july and august…..we’ll keep after him.
