Drenkelingenhuisje (Refuge shelter) Terschelling

This little shack is a refuge shelter for shipwrecked people, located on the north-eastern beach of Terschelling. The original one used to be located even further east, but was lost in a storm. This replica doesn't hold blankets and food anymore as was the case back in the days, and is much more of a cultural and memorial site than a functional shelter, even though it could still do its job to those in need.

It is really isolated and it takes quite a bicycle ride and walk to get there, the closest you can get with a car is four miles out. It is apparently also the place with the least amount of light pollution at night in the Netherlands, so would be a wonderful place to spend a night...

Loved every minute of spending time here and experimented with a lot of compositions, but chose this B&W high-key long-exposure (to smooth out the clouds and sea) with a lot of 'empty space' around it to emphasise its isolated and tranquil location. Best watched large-on-black.
