Flying home: from the desert to lush green!
Tuesday
Laura had an early start from the hotel to the airport by the shuttle bus, leaving at 6.30, whilst ours was a little more civilized at 7.30. There was a long line for security, but it was well organized and moved quickly. Laura had to make a connection, but ours was fortunately direct, and we actually got in slightly early, which just saved us from having to pay another day of parking for the car! We arrived to a beautiful warm sunny day, and about the first thing Roger did was to get out cutting the grass, which had grown really long in our absence. We had a phone call from Laura in the afternoon, saying the airline had “destroyed” her suitcase! It was only a carry on case, but on the small regional jet for the second step of her journey she had to check it at the gate, and apparently it got dropped from the conveyor as they were unloading the plane! Wausau is a very small airport, and to give them their due, they didn’t just put it on the conveyor for Laura to discover by herself, but one of the luggage handlers brought it in himself, and gave it to her very apologetically! When I say “destroyed”, that was Laura’s words. It did hold together sufficiently to contain her clothes, and fortunately she didn’t have anything breakable in it, but it is no longer usable! She of course was able to report it and she will be refunded. So she will get a new suitcase out of it, and she was beginning to complain about it anyway!
