There is a heart-wrenching, awe-inspiring exhibit in Leeds Art Gallery (pictured).
It is a collection of memorials of people who gave their own lives trying to rescue others. Here are just 4 of the many collected memorials;
Henry Bristol, aged 8, saved his sister’s life by tearing off her clothes, which were alight, but he then died of burns.
George Lee, fireman, carried an unconscious woman to safety, falling 6 times, and then dying from his injuries.
G Garnish, clergyman, who died whilst trying to rescue a stranger from drowning.
Alice Ayers, daughter of a bricklayer’s labourer, who by intrepid conduct rescued 3 children from a burning house, at the cost of her own young life.
