Thursday: Navigation

I will confess I was a little weary tonight after our late night last night, but it was still entirely worth it.

That didn't stop us going out tonight with a couple of colleagues for a drink.  It has taken about a year but finally we seem to be moving from just working together to socialising.  When arranging tonight, though, we did have a funny moment of cultural disconnect when I wandered into Borka and Andrea's office today to see what time we were meeting.  When suggesting 9 pm Borka must have seen the look of horror on my face because she quickly ventured that we could meet later, if that was too early.  I whimpered that, actually, by 9 pm, I was seriously thinking about pyjamas and cocoa!  Apparently no-one goes out here before 11pm but we compromised on 7pm.

We went to a new bar for us, the 'Vintage Industrial Bar'.  It was really good, a former button factory with a real industrial feel to it (hence the ship's navigational thing). My favourite conversation of the evening was K. and the bar tender (please imagine heavy eastern accent):

K.: I have just seen something scurrying under the car.  Was it a rat?
Bartender: No.  Small creature.  Go in circle.
Slight pause
K.: Ah, a hedgehog.
Bartender:  Da.  Spikes.
K. wanders off with drink in hand.
