Independence and the Arts
The Front of The Mitchell. We were attending another Aye, Write! event, this time The Debate on Independence and the Arts.
The pre-advertised Panel members were Pat Kane, Libby McArthur, James Boyle and Hannah McGill, all of whom were very interesting, honest, open and thought provoking. They pitched their points perfectly and made me feel less at sea.
Alasdair Gray, once great novelist, had been added to the panel late in the day and woeful chairing by Alan Taylor allowed Gray to derail the event with rambling, semi-coherent, inappropriate and less than relevant contributions. It was very sad to witness, and Taylor must bear the responsibility for failing to save the writer from himself.
Would have loved to hear more from the 'real' panel members, but no doubt there will be other opportunities.
