left foot home, right foot abroad

"Luxembourg (Lëtzebuerg Luxemburg) was consecutively Spanish in 1506, Austrian in 1714 and conquered by the French revolutionaries from 1795 to 1814. It was then called "Forest Department". After that, the Congress of Vienna handed Luxembourg over to William I of Orange along with the Netherlands and Belgium.
Luxembourg angered by the absolutism of the monarch rebelled in 1830 simultaneously with the Belgian. Three quarters of the Grand Duchy became attached to Belgium in 1839 but the area of Luxembourg City continued belonging to the House of Orange.
In 1890, the Orange family failed to have any male heir. So, Luxembourg was handed over to the House of the Nassau (which still has it today).

As of 1843, according to the Treaty of London, signed in 1839, Luxembourg appears in its current borders and has seriously narrowed. " (extracts from http://www.kelibia.fr/histoirepostale/x_luxembourg2.htm)

Today, our walk lead us to this boundary marker. It made me curious and i googled for the date, and found the explanation.

In fact, we were walking exactly on the line between Belgium and Luxembourg, left foot home, right foot abroad ;)
