Coupling

Today was the first day of the King's Dyke NR Bioblitz weekend, but sadly it dawned wet and miserable. Pete and I had agreed to contribute a day of recording, but having examined the forecast, decided to leave it until tomorrow, which looked much better.

But, by lunchtime the sun had appeared, bringing out these amorous Orange-tips, so we decided to visit for a few hours. Although it was mild, with some spells of sunshine, there really weren't many invertebrates around. I fared better with plants, though found very few that I hadn't recorded from the site in previous years. It was good to find a thriving colony of Small-flowered Buttercup though.

We left just before five, and came home via Waitrose to buy a few additions for dinner. Ben and Sarah joined us for a delicious meal of home-made pizza and flammkuchen with salads, eaten in the garden. Or at least the first course was - it became increasingly overcast, cool and breezy, so we retreated indoors for dessert!
