Over the River
What a day of walking!
Started off with breakfast on Rua das Flores which is pedestrianised, at a popular spot (and very good ) something by Hairy Bikers and wondered if it was anything to do with them. Spoke to a very nice Swedish lady who was working in Porto and her partner reminded me of Ben Fogle!
After this we would our way through narrow streets and very old building up past a church I cannot recall the name of there are so many . This one opened out to fab views over the river. We walked over the top level of the bridge which meant uphill streets to get to it but it’s cool in these areas. splendid scenes from the bridge and when over we walked up to a monastery (for the views too). By this time I needed the loo and in order to get one I bought a couple of Pastel do Natas in a bakery cafe and got the key to their loo .
Next up was a hop on the cable car to take us down to the streets Vila Nova de Gaia where the port houses are. It’s quite a vibrant area with an indoor food market where we had some fruit and then a crusty bread with ham and disgusting strong cheese , I didn’t realise this was in it!
We wandered back up to cross the bridge and it seems some crazy Moto thing was on with obstacles for these dirt bikes. So many folks and to me it didn’t seem safe, lots of the cyclist were getting stuck up on high obstacles and member of the public were helping!
We walked over the bottom of the bridge back up to our apartment. We decided to get some food from a restaurant and eat in the apartment, twas bushed. Slept late afternoon for 2 hours!
Face timed mum. She’s still testing positive for Covid (she calls it Covis)! She’s fed up being indoors for over a week now. She’s feeling better each day thankfully. I can’t believe she’s caught it!
