The Replacements
Has anyone else felt a little odd posting on Blip lately?
We rightly focus on the microcosms of our lives, which in the here and now are, as they should be, important to us and hopefully enjoyable, but elsewhere in the world (like say, I dunno……Ukraine) daily horrors unfold and like all sustained periods of terror and woe before them (like say, I dunno….the Trump administration) those daily horrors become normalised and little by little we become inured to the suffering of others, because hey, what can we do about it anyway?
The trials and tribulations of putting on an amateur production of a murder mystery are pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things at the best of times, let alone when an utterly unnecessary and pointless war is raging – the latest atrocity of which has seen a school being bombed – and it feels so trite to talk about the trivialities in my life that I can’t help but post with a tinge of guilt? Is that normal? Is that what a social conscience is?
Anyway, the replacement for the drop out, dropped out before even attending a single rehearsal and so an executive decision was made to replace the replacement for the drop out who dropped out with the lady who has been reading in the part for the past few weeks anyway and we’ll just adjust the script to suit where required.
It was a long rehearsal, but we got a lot done. I was conscious of being inside a lot lately, so after a big dinner, I put some music in my ears and as the sun began to set, went for a stroll up and over the castle whilst thanking my lucky stars for being fortunate enough to live where I do, to have only a few minor worries in my life and to be able to find some peace in just lying back for a few moments and watching the clouds pass overhead.
Suddenly the forthcoming Monday doesn’t seem quite so hard to deal with!
